Awards: 2017, 2016,
MACC annually presents Environmental Service Awards honoring those who have made outstanding contributions toward environmental awareness and resource protection in Massachusetts. Nominees may be conservation commissioners, local activists, career environmentalists, government officials, teachers, students, and others who have contributed significant time and energy toward environmental protection.
Award categories typically include a "Conservation Commissioner of the Year." That award will be given to a present or past commissioner who has made an outstanding contribution to his/her board and community. An outstanding conservation commission administrator or other staff person is also usually recognized.
Accomplishments considered by the Awards Committee in selecting recipients include: increasing efficiency of operations, hearings, meetings; writing and passing bylaws; increasing the effective administration or implementation of the Wetlands Protection Act in protecting a community’s wetlands and water resources; spearheading important land acquisitions; developing land-management plans; and completing a significant local project.
Awards are presented at the MACC Annual Environmental Conference, held in February or March every year.
Nancy Anderson Award
The Nancy Anderson Award is MACC’s most prestigious award. It is given to honor an environmental leader best exemplifying former MACC President Nancy Anderson, and is presented in her memory. The Anderson Award is given only when the Board of Directors identifies a person with success in sustained environmental leadership, staying power, creative thinking, fairness to all, love of our planet, and a moral certainty in the goodness of all things great and small.
Nancy Anderson Award recipients are: Alexandra Dawson (2005); Davis "Stuart" Debard (2011); Sally Zielinski (2015).
